The Student Government Association at Simpson College, Indianola, Iowa is proposing to install a very expensive security camera system to monitor the parking lots. The estimate for this system has been approximated at $7,500. This is an unacceptable waste of our tuition money. Crime on campus is incredibly low. The installation of cameras will serve minimal advantages to the Security Department, whom perform periodical patrols around campus every night. The cameras will only be a tool of further surveillance imposing on our lives. We cannot tolerate complacency in the prohibition of our freedoms. The need of the authorities to constantly monitor and record every motion is appalling to our sense of autonomy. Sign this petition to keep invasive surveillance out of our private dorms and parking lots.
