Because the previous Secretary of the Navy and the current Secretary of the Navy have deemed it appropriate to name 4 DDGs under construction for four former US Senators. Only one of them deserves the honor, former Rear Admiral Jerimiah Denton, who was a Vietnam POW and Navy Cross recipient in addition to being a US Senator. The other 3, Ted Stevens, Sam Nunn and Carl Levin did not earn any military honors but our Secretary of the Navy thinks they deserve this honor more than someone who gave their life for this country.
