To the United States Congress and State Legislatures:

We,the undersigned citizens of the United States, respectfully petition for the creation of a lawful and constitutional mechanism allowing voters to recall Members of Congress- both Representatives and Senators- before the completion of their elected terms.
The foundation of the United States government rests upon the principle that political power derives from the consent of the governed. As stated in the Declaration of Independence, governments are instituted to secure the rights of the people and derive their just powers from that consent. When elected officials no longer represent the interests, welfare, or trust of the people they serve, citizens should have a peaceful and democratic method to remove them from office, prior to the next scheduled election.
Currently the United States Constitution does not provide a direct process for voters to recall federal legislators. Members of Congress may only be removed through expulsion by their respective chambers or by losing reelection. While many states provide recall procedures for state and local officials,no such mechanism exists for federal representatives.
We therefore call upon Congress and the States to initiate the process necessary to establish a Federal Recall Law or Constitutional Amendment that would:
Allow registered voters within a congressional district or state to initiate a recall petition against their elected Representative or Senator.
Require a clearly defined and significant threshold of verified voter signatures to trigger a recall election.
Provide voters the opportunity to decide through a democratic recall vote whether the official should remain in office or be removed.
Ensure the process is fair, transparent, and protected from abuse while preserving the people's right to hold their elected officials accountable.
A federal recall mechanism would strengthen democratic accountability, increase public trust in government, and ensure that elected officials remain responsive to the people they serve.
We believe that the authority of government ultimately belongs to the people,and that citizens should possess the constitutional means to peacefully and democratically remove representatives who fail to uphold their duty to the public.
We therefore urge lawmakers to introduce and support legislation and/or a constitutional amendment establishing a federal recall process for Members of Congress.
