The argument by ER City Council was the park would lose revenue if guns were allowed. I went before City Council in 2009 when the first decision concerning the ban was made. Due to using the walking trail and seeing crime rise even then, I pleaded with City Council members to allow people to go armed.

I just saw the this story on WDEF. It is hypocritical that the Eastman gun show is held at the arena of an area that bans guns. Park goers (those who walk the trail) don't just have people to defend against. My friend was attacked by dogs when she was walking her toddler on the trail. No one was around to help her. The cops don't walk the trail, and it's a long trail that goes into Brainerd. A sign is not going to prevent someone from committing a crime. For those who are against people defending themselves: let's see you/your wife/daughter/son walk the trail defenseless and alone. You are criminalizing people who just want to protect themselves. If someone was killed who could've protected him/herself could you live with that on your conscious?

Simply put, if a serial rapist decided to hunt for victims at Camp Jordan, he would be nearly assured that any potential victim is unarmed. It is not like it is a closed park; it connects to the Greenway, which any criminal could use for easy access.
If just one person is hurt because the gun ban prevented him or her from using effective self defense, then it is a bad law.
