Petition to Create a Safe Delaware Park & Parkside Community

Remove all cars from the park! Having cars coming in from Colvin will creat a more dangerous situation than currently exists inside the park at this time.

The Scajaquada was meant to be a parkway. Delaware Park and the Museums should be destinations, not someplace to drive through as fast as possible. Put stoplights & crosswalks at intersections. Put permanent barriers between the road and the park

I have spent forty years working for safer traffric conditions on Parkside Avenue. Speed limits require enforcement that has been spotty at best! Cars continue to drive over and tear up lawns. While motorists have been injured and property seriously damaged, it's a miracle that pedestrians have not been killed on the curve at Parkside and Florence Avenues.

Much needed changes

Should have been done years ago. It is a shame it took such a tragedy to get things moving forward. Please make permanent changes now

I grew up on Parkside Avenue, playing in Delaware Park. My brother, as a little boy, was missed by about 4 feet by a car speeding off of the Scajaquada that drove over our lawn. This situation really needs intelligent action.

Don't wait for another tragedy.

These changes would necessitate plans for increased [truck] traffic on 290 & 190. I'd prefer an under/overpass to a crosswalk, if possible. (and I agree with what someone else said about rolling wheels on cobblestone!) I'd start with permanent barriers, preferably strong, attractive fencing or a stone wall. There are other measures, such as narrowing the lanes, which have been previously discussed for Main St. (I think), which naturally slow traffic. All should be considered.

Fixing Parkside is just as important as getting rid of the 198 monstrosity.

I really believe that something major needs to happen and it needs to happen now. My concern is with the specifics that are being proposed in the petition. The details are very specific as to how this area should be redesigned. Wouldn't a more sustainable long term plan be the way to proceed? Reducing the speed limit and putting up permanent barriers are only a temporary fix. And let's face it, those barriers are hideous. Please don't misunderstand, the lives of those who are being protected are certainly worth dealing with the ugliness but if we're getting as specific as calling for cobblestone crosswalks (which are not handicap accessible), why not say iron fencing or natural stone protective barriers? My point is, we need to do this right this time. I personally advocate for low cost temporary safety measures with the intention of having a study completed, and a redesign process that includes public engagement.

Yes I actually would like the road to be taken right out of the park but while waiting for that to happen 30mi. Per hr. Speed limit with a strong guard rail will have to do

Please, please correct this troublesome area. We should feel safe walking thru the park which we don't right now due to the high traffic usage and speed.
