49th Avenue is currently one of the most congested roads in Vancouver with thousands of vehicles travelling both ways during rush hours. This being a connecting route between some major commercial and academic destinations in Vancouver/Burnaby, major traffic jams are a common sight for anyone travelling on the 49th Avenue. In contrast to the number of vehicles using this route, this road is relatively narrow and has no prospect for expansion. As such, it is a small wonder if a few eye-brows are raised at the sight of the vehicles parked on the roadside all along the 49th Avenue, blocking one entire lane on each side of the road, in effect reducing 1/3 of the road space otherwise usable for moving traffic.
