To better recognize a great American and a true Arkansan hero, we the undersigned petition the government of the City of Carlisle and the Arkansas Airport Commission to change the name of the Carlisle Municipal Airport (4M3) to the Captain Maurice L. Britt Memorial Airport in recognition of CPT Britt's service to the United States and the State of Arkansas.
CPT Britt was a native of Carlisle, AR and a graduate of the University of Arkansas. Afterward, he went on to honorable service in the European and North African theaters of WWII where he distinguished himself in battle; being the first American in WWII to earning the Congressional Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, and Silver Star. Following the war, he was a successful businessman and was later elected to Lt. Governor.
We the undersigned believe that the renaming of the airpot is prudent in order to memorialize his service to the nation, State, and hometown.
