Petition to Allow Private Midwives to be Eligible for Professional Indemnity Insurance or to Be Exempt from Being Required to Enroll in PI

Women need choice. It is that simple.

I had a home birth with mid wives for the birth of my 2nd child. It was an wonderful experience and one I think any low risk woman and her family should have the option to choose. Most births do not need to be medical procedures and having home births puts a lot less stress on hospitals.

Every woman should have the choice how she wants to birth. For mothers with low risk pregnancies, why wouldn't home birth be an option. It would free up hospital beds and be more cost effective than hospital birth. Europe and NZ do it, why is Australia so opposed to it.

Every women should have the right to choose what care she wants. . With out private midwives this option is out..

Supporting women's choices is a safer option than ignoring those choices. Home birth is a choice few women make but one that they will continue to make. Driving it underground is not the solution.

Let's stop going around this loop every few years, sort no fault disability support once and for all. Home birth is safe , this is not about safety. This is about medical dominance and money.

Please help the midwives help young families!!!

Homebirth is amazing, it will always be our preference for our children & i very much hope the next generation gets to experience the beauty & support of homebirth midwives

Taking away a mothers right to have a professional attend a home birth. This is disguisting! Not all woman are high risk! A lot feel more comfortable giving birth at home, which allows a safer and quicker delivery for baby.

Freedom of choice for parents to birth their child how they want but allowing it to happen with the safety of a professional would be great,

Dear everyone It is imperative that women are given appropriate support to birth in their home if it is safe and they are comfortable doing so. Studies show a support team is paramount to a woman experiencing an uncomplicated labour. Being in her own home with comforts around her allow her to relax and birth with greater ease. Having access to midwife care enhances the entire process from feeling safe to birth to having an experienced person able to support the process and seek medical assist if needed. Thank you for approving PI insurance for midwives so that the hospitals are less burdened with well women who are birthing a new life into creation. I had the most fabulous home birth experience 16 years ago with my daughter and with many others since then. The only problems with home birth are with those who want to prevent them.

I know a lot of ppl who have had successful home births and there is no need to prevent this from happening!

It should be right of the woman, not left in the governments hands to decide where and how babies should be born.

Other nations have demonstrated the value, to both the individual and the health care system, of encouraging birth at home. We could be leading the world in allowing positive health practice, rather than lagging behind with outdated governmental restrictions.

Every baby deserves the best birth. Studies confirm that homebirths are better for the emotional and physical health of low-risk mothers and babies.

Home birth should be a choice available to all mothers!

Think pregnant women should be allowed homebirth with the help of midwifes who can get indemnity insurance for a reasonable price

Pregnant women are neither diseased nor sick; they just need assistance in a natural life process. I support home birth.
