For whatever this is worth, I thought I'd start a petition for CCC (Columbia College Chicago) to allow Dorm Room Movers to pack up our kids' belongings. They will ship them or store them. Earlier today, I sent the following email to every admin I could think of, and then, I thought of a petition. It can't hurt. I figure that the more parents' support, the better chance of making it happen. Chicago - as well as the entire US - is seeing a surge already despite stay-at-home orders.... Let's sign this and get their attention! All they have to do is contact Dorm Room Movers and make the necessary arrangements. Then, we can contact Dorm Room Movers to make our individual (ship/store) arrangements. The point being that some of can't - or won't - fly back to Chicago to move out before the semester ends on May 15th (let alone by April 30th, which the school is now recommending).
CCC: PLEASE consider allowing this service, especially for those who would have to fly back to collect our kids' belongings. The President of the US just announced that there will be a surge in the next week or 2 (and this week is seeing a peak). We do not, and cannot, risk our health, nor should we risk passing it on, which is already occurring by people not complying with Stay-At-Home orders or other laws/guidelines. Additionally, more and more flights are being cancelled. I implore you to reach out to Dorm Movers to make arrangements that will allow their entrance on campus/into the dorms and pack up the belongings of - and for - our children.

We are working on a plan to provide packing to storage/shipping services for students who are not allowed to return to campus for their items. please visit your school’s website in the COVID-19 UPDATE section to see what arrangements are in place.
If no arrangements are noted, please contact your school administration and let them know that we are ready to help with this situation. We will work with the school to arrange a date where we can come onto campus to pack and collect everything going into storage or shipping for everyone that needs it.

WE DID IT! April 14, 2020 Dear [STUDENT], We are writing to update the residence hall move-out plan that was announced on April 3. While a majority of residents have moved out, a number of you are unable to travel at the current time or have other obstacles that are preventing you from returning to the residence halls for move-out. As a result of the feedback we have received from many of you, we have made additional arrangements to assist you with moving. Please note that we have confirmed with the Chicago Mayor’s Office that moving is allowed under the current stay-at-home order and we are taking physical distancing precautions and staggering the sign-up times. We have also extended the move-out period through May 10. We have identified companies that will work directly with you to pack your residence hall room and then either store or ship your belongings to you. These arrangements are between you and the company, at your cost. If you choose to hire a moving company, you will need to address any future questions or concerns about the moving service or the condition of your belongings directly with the mover. All - I received an email last night from the Director of Residence Education/ResLife Office that she contacted Dorm Room Movers yesterday and is trying to get more information about their packing process and intends to email all residents, when the plan is in place! AMEN!
