Nearly 10,000 Navajo people voted for Chris Deschene in the Primary Election, this gave him one of two spots in the General Election. The people had decided who they wanted to vote for and a discriminatory technicality took that away from us, took our voice away, took our rights away. This "fluency test" had never been given to any other candidate and was given with the intent to disqualify Chris Deschene. Despite the fact that he is a Marine Corps veteran, an engineer, a lawyer and a supporter of preserving our culture the Navajo Nation courts decided to take away the rights of the people. We need a president who is knowledgeable, who is educated, who is driven and understands what the Navajo Nation needs most right now, Chris Deschene is that president.
