Petition to AIDA International: Suspend Israel From Competition Until Compliance With International Law

We, the undersigned members of the global freediving community and concerned citizens, call on AIDA International to uphold its commitment to fairness, human rights, and the spirit of sportsmanship by suspending Israel from all AIDA-sanctioned competitions until it complies with all binding rulings of the International Court of Justice, ends its military occupation of Palestinian territories, lifts the siege on Gaza, and is no longer engaged in violations of international humanitarian law or crimes against humanity as verified by independent international bodies.
The International Court of Justice has determined there are plausible grounds that Israel’s ongoing actions in Gaza may constitute genocide. These actions, alongside repeated documented violations of international humanitarian law—including the targeting of civilians, destruction of essential infrastructure, and collective punishment—demand urgent accountability.
Allowing a state accused of such grave crimes to compete under its national flag undermines AIDA’s integrity and contradicts the very values our sport represents. In 2022, AIDA acted decisively by suspending Russian athletes following the invasion of Ukraine. We now call on AIDA to apply the same standard here with consistency and moral courage.
Freediving is built on trust, unity, and respect for life—principles incompatible with state-led atrocities.
We urge AIDA International to:
1. Immediately suspend Israel from all competitions, events, and rankings.
2. Reaffirm that human rights are non-negotiable in sport.
3. Strengthen policies to ensure consistent enforcement of ethical standards for all nations.
This is not a call to punish individual athletes for their identity. It is a demand to end the official representation of a state currently facing credible accusations of genocide and crimes against humanity.
For the sake of justice, for the credibility of our sport, and for the countless victims who have no voice on this stage, we call on AIDA to act now.
