For many years, Ryanair provided a vital air link between Dublin and Almeria, operating flights twice a week (one flight in, one flight out Tuesdays and Saturdays).

This service, which consistently flew at near full capacity, facilitated tourism, business travel, and family visits between Ireland and southeastern Spain. The recent cancellation of this route has caused significant inconvenience and disruption for countless travellers.

Almeria Airport served not only the city itself but also acted as a gateway to the wider region. Many passengers used these flights to access popular tourist destinations such as Mojácar, Roquetas de Mar, the stunning Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park and many more.

The loss of this direct route forces travellers to fly to Málaga or Murcia airports, adding hours and significant extra costs to their journeys in the form of transfers, car hire, and potential overnight stays. This not only impacts holidaymakers but also creates obstacles for business travellers and those visiting family and friends.

We, the undersigned, strongly urge Aer Lingus to consider taking on this important and previously highly successful route. Re-establishing a direct connection between Dublin and Almeria would:

* Benefit Aer Lingus: Capture a readily available market with proven high demand, as demonstrated by Ryanair's consistently full flights.

* Reduce travel burdens: Eliminate the inconvenience and added expense of travelling via Málaga or Murcia for passengers.

* Boost tourism: Provide easy and affordable access to Almeria and its surrounding areas for Irish tourists.

* Facilitate business: Enable companies in both regions to connect and trade more easily.

* Strengthen family ties: Allow families and friends separated by distance to visit each other more conveniently.

* Support the local economy: Contribute to the economic growth of both Almeria and Dublin.

We believe that there is a strong demand for this route, as evidenced by its popularity under Ryanair. We urge Aer Lingus to recognize this demand and take action to restore this essential air link.
