I assert that the lack of a rubric, deviation from the syllabus, and absence of adequate opportunities to receive technical feedback resulted in a grade that does not appropriately reflect my abilities and skills.

Before the SP encounter, we were told that there was no rubric; however, we were graded from a rubric. I would not mind if no rubric was available for the students before the SP activity as long as the our graders did not go off of a rubric. From the SP activity, I can assume most students went off of their " best clinical judgement", which is what we will be performing out in clinicals; therefore, we should be graded in that manner and not have to worry about what the rubric says. Furthermore, I performed the same history, physical exam, and SOAP note that I learned and performed in the past year; however, I received a score that is not consistent with past SP activities.
By having no rubric, we had to rely on the rubric from last semester. This seemed to be fine for last semester's SP, and this rubric was agreed upon by the entire faculty. As such, it should have been perfectly acceptable to use this for this semester's SP.
This exam did not reflect how we were tested for the previous 3 semesters and it's extremely unfair to have us blindly walk into an exam with no direction.

Regardless of one's grade, it is concerning for both pneumonia and cardiac situations since there were additional graded criteria for this activity that were not expected to be performed on previous patient activities (of which all students passed). The addition of criteria for the current exam creates unfair expectations since students were not informed of the additional requirements prior to the exam. The lack of continuity and updates are valid concerns that should initiate reconsideration of the grading policy so that the new criteria should not be included on this exam.
