As you may be aware, we were not able to post fourth grade classes due to the board reviewing whether or not to add another 4th grade class. As concerned parents, we are petitioning to add a fourth, 4th grade class because rising enrollment has resulted in class sizes of 28, 28 and 27 at River School. This is highest number of students per class that River School has seen in 13 years. Time is of the essence to bring in another teacher before Wednesday August 10. We would like to avoid posting class lists until this issue is resolved as we do not want students to be uprooted from their class assignments - this is extremely disruptive not only to families, but to the teachers and staff of the School.
On behalf of the 4th grade parent community, we urge you to add another class in order to continue to provide the high level of academic excellence which River School demonstrates across the board.
Thank you kindly,
Carmel River School 4th grade families

The behavioral issues, size and gender imbalance in our grade level have been known forever and the whole class has been unfairly made to pay for the despicable behavior of the few since Kindergarten. The summer enrollment line is a tired and poor excuse for these decisions always being made at 11th hour. Please help my daughter to avoid going through what my son went through last year when he was told he would be in one class, robo-called the night before to say he wouldn't actually be in that class, then not told until 8 am on the first day of school where he would be and who he'd be with. Our taxes and the salaries of our administration much too high for this to happen year after year. Do what is right and approve a transfer or new hire NOW, before the first day. Thank you.
The board needs to act to bring class sizes down and add a fourth 4th grade teacher. Many of us live in Carmel because of Carmel River School. Asking us to go to Tularcitos to solve the problem represents a fundamental misunderstanding on the board's part as to why people pay more to live in Carmel; We want our kids to go to Carmel River and our higher real estate taxes enable the board to spend the money to hire another 4th grade teacher. They need to make it happen.
I think it is imperative that another class is added to the fourth grade for the benefit of our students and our teachers. 28 students is simply too many for a school such as River School.
- we don't believe that in a district of this quality, that we should have 28 students in a class. - this is the highest number of students per class in 13 years - historically tular and river have had similar student to teacher ratio and based on the number of students per class at River, we recommend and strongly encourage you add another teacher - the fact that this is not approved before school starts causes a significant disruption for parents, students and teachers. Time is critical For this matter - this is a challenging group of 4th graders - there is proven data that smaller class size for this particular class is highly beneficial.
My daughter fell behind academy during 1 & 2 grade do to the high student teacher ratios. She finally started to catch up last year. We need a teacher for the students.
Please for my grandchildren
Would like to see smaller class size

Our school district has the financial resources and community support available to meet the educational needs of our children and specifically in regards to keeping manageable class room sizes of the River Schools children with a one year addition of a fourth grade class. This has been the practice and precident in recent years; to expand the number of class rooms on a school year-by-school year basis as needed and should be implemented ASAP before August 10th in order not to disrupt the students and their teachers as they begin.
