We, residents of Louisville Metro, hereby request that the Louisville Metro Landmarks and Preservation Districts Commission conduct a study and hold a public hearing to determine if Veech House/Indian Hill Stock Farm at 125 Indian Hills Trail should be established as an Individual Local Landmark pursuant to LMCO 32.260(l) as amended on August 8, 2019. The boundaries are identified on the attached map. A summary on the history and significance of the structures and property is also attached. We believe this property meets the following criteria: (a) its value as the original property for the development of the City of Indian Hills and its previous ownership by future President Zachary Taylor, (b) its site location first as an encampment for indigenous peoples and later as a home of future President Zachary Taylor, (c) its identification with the Taylor family and the Veech family, especially Richard Veech, a prominent horse farmer, banker and railroad president, (d) its embodiment of a Federal style I-house with a transition to the Greek Revival style (circa 1833 and 1860), and (e) its significance to the enslaved community which likely built the houses and lived in and worked in the adjoining stone house. We understand the requirements for this petition. We request designation in an effort to protect the significant historic structures and property in the face of anticipated demolition.
