Petition ​Regarding the Appointment of the National Librarian/Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at the National Library of South Africa (NLSA)

I feel that the concerns of this petition are of vital importance and must be considered

We need a qualified National Librarian. The future of Librarians depends on qualified Leadership

Just not how things work. Lets suck it up, and re-advertise accordingly. Come on. Surely this was a 'mistake'.

LIS integrity must be protected National Librarian position must remain LIS professional position commensurate with Imternational standards.

Non librarian is in no were eligible to be appointed as chief librarian any way any how Is a slap to the field of librarianship as a profession

I support this petition. The LIS profession has been undermined for long. It is time we stand together not only for executive positions but also for entry-level ones.

How can the NLSA appoint CEO who doesn't have qualification of Library and Information science while the are lot of unemployed librarians out there? This need to be fixed , the position should be re-advertised.

They don't respect LIS profession

Librarians need a blend of strong technical skills like cataloging and information management, combined with interpersonal qualities such as patience, communication skills, and a genuine love for knowledge. They should also be adaptable, open-minded, and committed to lifelong learning.  Here's a more detailed look at the qualities of a good librarian: Technical and Professional Skills: Information Literacy: Understanding how to find, evaluate, and use information effectively, both for themselves and to help patrons. 

I wish to work as librarian and full registered, I have a Higher Certificate in Archives and Records Management and it's my final year in Bachelor of Arts in General my majors are Archives and Information Science.

Let's prioritize library qualifications as a requirement not an advantage for a national librarian position. This is someone who is meant to be exemplary about the highest level of the profession and the value of the qualification itself.

As an LIS profession, appointing a non LIS memeber could change the trajectory of our field. We are fighting to get better recognition among other professional spaces.
