We the undersigned understand the City of Eureka’s position in needing to move the City Corporation Yard out of tsunami zone. We commend the City for its forward thinking and planning in disaster preparedness. However, we are strongly opposed to the City moving the Corporation Yard from downtown to the the proposed southeast location across from the Sequoia Park entry gates and the Zoo between W and Dolbeer Streets. The Corporation Yard would eliminate the popular Kennedy ballfield on Dolbeer that is currently there, would worsen already bad pedestrian and traffic situations in the Park area, and is not at all in keeping with the recreational and educational nature of the neighborhood. We strongly encourage the City to find an alternate site for the Corporation Yard’s relocation.
