SAY NO TO UNACCOUNTABLE LEADERSHIP – WHY THE CURRENT PRO SHOULD NOT BE TRUSTED AS GENERAL SECRETARY Fellow LALSAites, Leadership is not about title, it is about integrity, responsibility, and accountability. It is shocking and disheartening that a certain individual, who currently serves as the Public Relations Officer (PRO), has declared his intention to run for the office of the General Secretary. But before we hand him a more sensitive and powerful office, let us reflect deeply on his past actions. Recently, this same PRO issued a letter and falsely claimed it was signed by the President of the Association. This is not a mere mistake , it is a deliberate abuse of power, a violation of the constitution, and a clear sign of dishonesty. According to the LALSA Constitution (Article II, Section 8, Subsection 5(i)), the PRO is to: publicize with the approval of the Executive Council or the president all the activities proposed or conducted by the Association.” Nowhere is the PRO authorized to impersonate or forge a signature, especially that of the President. This is a gross misconduct as defined by the constitution in Section 42(5): Gross misconduct shall mean a great violation... of the provision of this constitution…” If someone can falsely claim presidential authority as a PRO, what would stop him from doing even worse as General Secretary, the office responsible for all correspondence, minutes of meetings, official documentation, and summoning of meetings? (See Section 8, Subsection 3 of the Constitution.) The General Secretary is the heartbeat of transparency and order in LALSA. Electing someone who has already demonstrated disregard for truth and procedure is like giving a match to someone already caught playing with fire. We cannot afford to hand over our constitution, records, and official proceedings to someone who has already proven to be constitutionally reckless. Let us not reward misconduct with promotion. Let us
