Petition background: Around Nov 2nd, class of 2015 MSE master students received email from advisor Mahadevan Khantha, saying that requirement of graduation for master program was 5 MSE courses, 3 MSE or MSE related courses, and 2 free electives. According to graduate degree procedures on MSE official webpage
(http://www.mse.seas.upenn.edu/current-students/masters/procedures.php), minimum requirement for master degree is the completion of ten course units of graduate level. At least five courses must be courses in materials science and other five courses can be electives selected from departments in SEAS or the Physical Sciences.Advisor's email content has conflicted with the information posted on the official website for MSE master program and the graduation requirement from previous year. This late notice has caused issues that many master students' finished courses were disapproved and these students will have to change their education and career plans in the last semester, add more courses to their schedule, or, even worse, delay their graduation. Additionally, the definition of related courses is unclear and there is no specific list of related courses for reference.

Action petitioned for: We, class of 2015 MSE master students, urge our student representatives to act now to fix this problem with related stuff and withdraw unreasonable and delayed changes in graduation requirement.
