PETITION IN SUPPORT OF PRICE BROTHERS SHIPYARD
We, the undersigned members of the community, respectfully submit this petition in strong support of Price Brothers Shipyard and its continued operation.
Price Brothers Shipyard, established by the Price family 37 years ago, stands on land that has long served as a working shipyard dating back almost 100 years, when it was originally operated by the Authement family. This property has a deep-rooted history tied directly to the maritime and fishing industries that are vital to our region.
For generations, the people of our bayou communities have relied heavily on the fishing industry as a primary source of income and livelihood. Commercial fishing is not only a way of life but a cornerstone of our local economy. Price Brothers Shipyard has played a critical role in supporting this industry by providing essential services such as vessel repair, maintenance, and upkeep. Numerous commercial fishermen depend on this shipyard to keep their boats operational and safe.
The potential shutdown of Price Brothers Shipyard would have a severe and detrimental impact on our community. It would disrupt the ability of fishermen to maintain their vessels, threaten their livelihoods, and weaken the economic stability of the area as a whole.
Additionally, it is important to recognize that the shipyard was established on this land long before surrounding developments. Tave Drive is part of the property that was originally sold with the shipyard. Historically, the road terminated at the shipyard itself. Many community members recall that, in earlier years, there was no extension beyond this point.
If access is being requested by a campground or any new development, reasonable alternatives exist. Rather than infringing upon the established operations and property rights of the shipyard, the campground should pursue its own access by connecting to an appropriate roadway and constructing its own private driveway.
In conclusion, Price Brothers Shipyard is not only historically significant but also essential to the survival of our local fishing community. We strongly urge that any actions that would lead to its closure or disruption be reconsidered. Protecting this shipyard means protecting the livelihoods, heritage, and future of our bayou communities.
