After talking with Dr. Canter following the last health meeting at the Nutrition Center, I found out that passing the current ordinance would immediately set in motion a lawsuit brought by the "other side". Dr. Canter stated that the Health Center would not have the funds to cover the law suit AND the many programs the Moniteau County Health Center provides. I strongly believe, however, that the many citizens of Moniteau County would gladly come together to help financially with that lawsuit. I would be happy to donate the first $100 to help fight the lawsuit, mentioned this to another person, and she said she would donate the 2nd hundred dollars. We are talking about protecting the air and water quality of our county against incoming CAFOs. We have nothing against farmers; we support their farms and livelihood, but we DON'T want hog "factories" coming in that would disrupt OUR established farms, houses, creeks and streams, air, water, and OUR quality of life!

Please protect against large farming industries and foreign owned entities that threaten health, air and water quality in rural areas with unregulated farming practices. There needs to be accountability to farmers who use chemicals such as 2 4 D and Roundup and CAFO's that clearly affect our environment negatively. Small scale farming practices and organic gardening can feed the world.

I Talked to the Missouri DNR on Friday. They stated that they only have authority to enforce air emissions standards on 1A CAFOs. (Those are the largest class) They have no authority to enforce emissions standards on class 1B or class 1C CAFOs They will not even come out to take a reading if we reported the standard being exceeded by a 1B or 1C CAFO. If the county sets up a monitoring program and has multiple consistent readings above emissions standards they might come out to take a few readings, but could do nothing with the information. Does it sound like the DNR has tight regulations to you?

The citizens of Moniteau County need some measure of protection against potentially harmful health effects from any industry. For now, it's the CAFOs. It is inexcusable that any industry should be practically exempt from state health regulations. Thanks for doing your part to prevent the foreign corporate giants from ruining our beloved rural way of life.

Please pass this health ordinance! As the data emerges regarding the health effects of CAFO's, we want to be in front of what's going to happen. We can always revisit the topic in a couple years. But for now we need to be ahead of this and pass a health ordinance now.

Please continue to put the health and well being of the citizens of Moniteau County ahead of the financial appetite of large corporate agribusiness. I support the enactment of regulations that would protect us from the health (and other) consequences that these corporations may pose if we don't act to protect ourselves.

We must be able to have some common sense local control over the large often times foreign owned industrial agriculture model that is taking over our small farming communities.

Please enact these common sense regulations to protect our air and water. Exercise local control while we still can, don’t relinquish control to the foreign corporate interests that hold sway in Jefferson City.
