Under regulations 68 (1) and 68 (2) of Land Transport (Traffic) Regulations 2000 [LAT 13,360 - Use of Public Streets for Public Events. This legislation allows the LTA to close off a public street for events such as drag racing. The drag racing scene in Fiji has been at a standstill since the Nanuku Airstrip is no longer permitted for racing use - with the last event being held in December of 2021 - which has prompted in illegal street racing which is dangerous to motorists and public road users. If the LTA abides by this provision in the LAW, Drag races in Fiji has hope of resuming once again.
