Docherty and Webber finally caved and offered John Kadz his teaching contract back. We forced their hand because we refused to accept their pathetic lack of transparency. Keep your eyes on this administration because we now know exactly what it takes to make them do their jobs.

Dear Dr. David Docherty, President, Mount Royal University and Dr. Charles Webber, Dean, Faculty of Continuing Education and Extension:
We, the students, parents, donors and Conservatory supporters, have recently been informed that Mr. John Kadz, a long standing and invaluable member of Mount Royal University Conservatory, has not been offered a teaching contract for the upcoming academic year. Losing Mr. Kadz's abilities and experience as a gifted teacher would be a tragic loss to both the Conservatory and its students. Given that the university has not officially informed students that he will not be returning and the fact that the Conservatory has been accepting payments for cello lessons in his name, students have been led to assume that Mr. Kadz would continue to be their teacher for this next year. Making this known at this late date has not allowed students to make an informed decision on their music education for the upcoming year.
We ask that you immediately renew Mr. John Kadz's teaching contract with Mount Royal University Conservatory for the upcoming academic year 2016-2017.

I don't even take lessons from MRU, but knowing that this is how MRU does business would make me look elsewhere, for any course offered. Very unprofessional to treat students and a long standing faculty member in this manner.
The superb music programs at MRU, particularly the Academy, are partially funded by donors who recognize the superb quality of the musicians on the faculty. John Kadz is a huge asset to the music programs and should not be treated like this. Shame on you!
I will be forwarding an independent letter as well. Mr. J Kadz has been an integral part of my child, Rylan Gajek's musical education and has provided strong support for his development not only as a musician but as a well rounded person. Sincerely, Trinda Gajek
John Kadz is one of the best cello instructors in North America. His name draws many students to the Mount Royal Conservatory. Many students have come from cities far away to be taught by him regularly. He is a huge asset to the Acadmy and Advanced Performance program.
Mr. Kadz was my chamber music coach for 2 years at Mount Royal - he changed my life as a string player and I wouldn't be the player I am today without him. Mr. Kadz is world-renowned as a cello teacher and coach and Mount Royal would be fools not to hire him back.
John Kadz is a brilliant teacher and mentor and has changed the lives of so many of us, his students. The loss of his talent at the conservatory would be a devastating one.
This is a very puzzling and regrettable action on the part of Mount Royal and one you will surely regret. I know many of the cellists John Kadz has fostered and taught, he is world-class as are his students. He should be reinstated with an apology.

John Kadz has the admiration of all cellists and cello teachers in Canada and abroad. I have taught masterclasses for him at the school and I have had several former students study with him. He does a fantastic job and it seems senseless to put an end to his amazing legacy.
