The purpose of this petition is to ensure the fair and equal treatment of all quarterbacks in the NFL, no matter what play is called. A defender should not be allowed to assume based on any formation what the quarterbacks intentions are until he, himself executes said intentions. Thus a diving tackle to a quarterbacks knees in a zone read option play, before the quarterback is actually running with the football in an attempt to gain yards himself, would be just as illegal as a diving tackle to a quarterbacks knees while standing in the pocket and surveying the field of play for an open receiver. It is our intention that this petition be presented to the head of NFL officiating, Dean Blandino, to make him aware of our demand that this issue be addressed.
