Petition for Support of the LGBTQ+ Community from PUMC

Although I am not a very religious person, support of the LGBTQ+ community is one of my biggest passions. I gladly signed this petition as I believe that this lovely community has absolutely no right to be discriminated against so violently. I hope this petition significantly exceeds it signature goal.

I gladly sign this petition. Of all places in our society, certainly God's church should be welcoming and accepting of all His children.

Everyone is a child of God and he loves and accepts us all unconditionally so why would we not do the same for each other.

We are all God's children.

Love is the most powerful word in the Bible. Jesus commands us to love; it shouldn't be this difficult.

I believe in basic human rights for all. I will not be able to continue supporting a church that endorses discrimination toward any of my brothers and sisters in Christ. I do not want to leave my church, and so I urge the “powers that be” to right this wrong ASAP!

I endorse this petition. It is a wrong that needs to be righted.

I don’t believe that LGBT is a sin. I define sin as a movement away from god. I believe that “their” love and sex is as sweet and pure as “ours”. In a correct world, there would be no “their” and “our” but only “we”. We are “one”. Anything that separates the oneness is a separation from god and therefore is sin. Sex is strong. I stopped maturing at 17 so I know how strong it is. Sex makes us do stupid things. But sex isn’t sinful. It just is. There are no sex sins. There are relationship sins. When we place the blame on sex, we miss the point. I try to imagine growing up being sexually different. I don’t want to be different. It is hard enough being different, much less sexually different where others look at me as a sinner, dirty, deviant, disgusting. I don’t want to be different or hated, I just am. I didn’t ask for it, it just is. I really don’t know who my friends are, will my parents love me, who I can trust. I’m miserable keeping a secret but it is dangerous to be honest. I know I will have some support but I’m not always sure who. I live in fear and wonder if they may be right about me. It is terrible to hide my true self. Where do I turn? Some people are lucky and have strong support, some aren’t. I believe god is on my side, but I’m told he isn’t. I can’t turn to the church. This life is oppressive and hard to reconcile and a struggle. What kind of life is this? As Jesus became a man, he also wondered about his life. He went to the desert to reflect and decide who he was and what he wanted to be. He examined his life and the world around him, decided what is important and what isn’t – reality. He felt the power of the holy spirit upon him. He felt anointed and consumed by this power. He resolved who he was and how to live and what his mission was to be. He dedicated his life was to preach good news to the poor, proclaim release of the captives, recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed a

We need to remove the judgmental language from the Discipline.

I am sickened by the UMC GC decision. But I am equally proud that Providence UMC is willing to state publicly that this decision is WRONG.
