Petition for Rabbit Population Control We, the members of the Fenway Garden Society and residents of the City of Boston, petition the City of Boston to immediately assist with rabbit population reduction within the Fenway Victory Gardens. Over the past two years, the number of rabbits has grown exponentially. We had significant vegetation destruction during the 2012 summer and even more during the 2012-2013 winter. The spring of this year has brought even more damage. Not only have many thousands of dollar of mature plantings been lost, but new plantings for this season have been chewed completely off or down to the single stem. We have gardeners in their mid-90s who have never seen such destruction and are ready to quit. Also, new gardeners are becoming defeated as well. This does not bode well for the future of our historic gardening community. Our membership has tried all sorts of solutions (fox pee to every type of fencing) to stop the rabbits, but they still seem to find a way into our 500 garden plots. We have appealed to the Boston Parks Department, and we have had numerous conversations with the Emerald Necklace Conservancy. At this point, we need action to be taken before the rabbit population multiplies again. Soon enough they will travel to other parks within the city. We want to work with the City of Boston so that does not happen. We would like to have a trapping program put in place immediately and will provide assistance. Thank you, The Fenway Garden Society Executive Board: Kristen Mobilia, President Edward E. Gavlock-Hommel, Vice President of the Park Bruno Rubio, Senior VP of Administration Mario D’Amato, VP of Communication and Development Nick Peters, Treasurer
