Petition for Parking at the Jennie Dean Park

AFAC plays a critically important role in our community and we need to support it in every way.

AFAC requires adequate parking for staff. volunteers, and clients many more hours per day, and many more days per year, than do Jennie Dean's users. Severely reducing available parking is definitely NOT in the County's or residents' best interests.

I volunteer there and doing away with parking will make it difficult to find parking while volunteering.

It's already difficult to find parking when going to volunteer at AFAC. Please keep the parking and encourage people to keep volunteering!

Food is a priority, parking for AFAC is necessary.

I’ve been an AFAC volunteer for almost ten years. Parking is essential for clients, staff, and volunteers!

Arlington County: What is your alternative proposal so that clients may park for a short while to pick up their food distribution? Where would staff and volunteers park?

I volunteer at AFAC and it would be difficult if I couldn't find parking. Please reconsider.

Taking parking away will hinder and disrupt the mission of AFAC. All for increased revenue ? People and the needs of the community have to come first. Do not turn something benign into politics or business as usual. AFAC has an invaluable mission that reaches many throughout the local community. Why compromise this ? To make a couple of bucks ? Why can’t common sense solutions actually be common sense ? Do not stir up problems when it is completely avoidable. Think of it this way: You will not feel the consequences of your decisions, but you will maybe see and hear about them. You will not see the long term effects of your decision because authority and life itself is only temporary. Let us think of others and the future, as a whole, before we make choices for the here and now. Exercise wisdom because actions always have consequences. Thank you.

This change would heavily deter me from volunteering at AFAC.

I am a senior volunteer with limited mobility. Parking is already difficult for me.

AFAC serves Arlington needy daily and the staff and the numerous volunteers, who give their free time, need some support for convenient parking.

Another absurd Arlington County plan. The county needs to acknowledge that Arl County is the suburbs and not an urban center. Most folks need their cars to earn a living and be efficient w/the time. We all don't have an extra 3-4 hrs every day to accommodate using public transportation.

Don’t get rid of the street parking

There is a parking shortage at this location already. Parking is not very user friendly at this facility especially for clients.

As pastor of one of the Arlington congregations that founded AFAC and that has supported the center with volunteers and financial support for decades, I am concerned that the proposal to remove parking near the center will make it much more difficult for AFAC to fulfill its mission to the 2,400 Arlington families who rely on its weekly food assistance. I strongly encourage the county to reconsider this proposal and find a way to meet the needs of park users and AFAC clients, staff, and volunteers. Rev.
