I was a research coordinator for a DOD-funded grant for the treatment of anxiety, depression, and suicidality prior to coming into the field of communication. Since then, I have been very passionate about the military, particularly military mental health.

I hope that this division comes to fruition, because the military and veteran space is embedded in every system that exists. Communication scholars have so much to add, especially with regard to critical, intercultural, political and feminist theories. As a military wife and mother, I am excited about the contributions this division will make to communication scholarship.

GRowing up a Navy brat, I can appreciate the many of the ways interpersonal, intercultural, and organizational communication and social influence can develop in patterns unique to military life, whether that be for the service people, their spouses, or children and extended family. Thus, I think establishing a Communication and Military Division within the NCA is an excellent idea, and I am in full support.
