We, the undersigned, think that freshmen at Souhegan High School should be given more class options to choose from at the beginning of the year. According to the Souhegan High School program of Studies 2012-2013, freshmen are currently offered music and art as their only choice electives and are not offered A.P. courses at all. Providing more class choices would give freshmen students the opportunity to explore different topics and to discover new passions. It would also create some mixed-grade classrooms, which according to Feldman and Gray, knowledgeable and experienced attorneys in Rochester, NY, can be very benefical, allowing younger students to use older students as resources. Electives allow students a well-rounded education, and the availability of A.P. courses ensures that all students are properly challenged. Though a large variety of electives and the option of A.P. classes are already available to upperclassmen at SHS, allowing freshmen with the same opportunities would get them off to a better start.
