I don't think the education of one convicted rapist should be prioritized over the safety and well-being of the entire student body.

Though I know it is always a case by case situation, when an assault is clear and proven, I do not believe the perpetrator has the right to continue school here.

This is incredibly important and has to become a reality. Protect students. Support survivors. Expel perpetrators. Lawrence University is not safe, and the administration has to fix that.

Lawrence needs to have a strict no tolerance policy against sexual assault. No second chances here. None.

Although from a certain perspective I can appreciate Lawrence's attitude that people should be given second chances and that criminality is not inherent, our school's policies on sexual assault are simply another instance of the perpetrator taking precedence over the victim. Any student who has committed sexual assault can have their second chance, but they can have that chance at another school with respect for the victim(s) of their sexual assault.

Why is it that students are expelled for honor code violations and not for sexual assault? I hope that our school will step up to the plate and address the failing system that is in place to protect survivors. We need to change how we address these issues and stop sweeping them under the rug.

Students should feel safe on campus and it is the responsibility of the university to ensure that.

This is about the safety of all of us who have ever been victims or have felt threatened. Lawrence is supposed to be a safe campus especially since it is so easy for outsiders to wander in. This makes me uneasy and uncomfortable and I am not willing to watch this happen and watch my safety decrease just because the school doesn't want to take proper action. If anything else happens this is on the school and that shouldn't even be a predicament any of us are concerned with.
