For Vermilion Parish, Louisiana, and U.S. officials to work together to construct a levee along the northern bank of the Intracoastal Waterway in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana at least 12 feet in height to prevent repetitive storm surge flooding of areas north of the Intracoastal, to protect lives, property, and farm land in central and northern Vermilion Parish including the cities of Abbeville, Kaplan, the towns of Delcambe, Erath, Gueydan, and the village of Maurice.

Central and northern Vermilion Parish are growing in population and wealth, and northern Vermilion Parish has become a suburban area to neighboring Lafayette Parish. The area is known for rich farm lands that produce sugar, rice, crawfish, and other cash crops that need protection from the potential of repetitive storm surge flooding similar to what happened during Hurricanes Rita and Ike in 2005 and 2008, respectively. Future flooding may have catastrophic economic effects on lives, property and farm loss in the billions of dollars.

This petition is a place for everybody to come together and show political support for the construction of a levee along the northern bank of the Intracoastal Waterway in Vermilion Parish, Louisiana at least 12 feet in height for the protection of our lives and our precious Louisiana home.
