Final supporters
Lake County has a lot of tourists and residents. There is a lack of appropriate street-lighting that is maintained by Lake County. Lake County refers individuals to Duke Energy to install a light, and residents pay for the lights themselves, and the street lights are turned towards the individual's homes.
Duke Energy suggested that we create a petition to have Lake County maintain and pay for street lighting out of concern for resident and tourist SAFETY. Duke Energy said they would then simply turn the Lake County maintained street lighting from facing a resident's home and onto the street. This is far better than what is in place now.
The neighborhood of the individual organizing this petition has had 3 burglaries in the last 5 months. Once of these incidents was featured on Fox35 news. It is high time that Lake County follow the lead of other counties and provide lighting for the safety of it's residents and tourists.
So, here we are today. If you agree that there should be adequate street lighting maintained and paid for by Lake County, please sign the petition and pass along to other residents in Lake County. The individual responsible is George Gadiel – Traffic Engineer, who simply refers the requests to Duke Energy.
The more we organize and have our voices heard, the more likely we are to collectively have our voices and concerns heard.

The signatures collected so far have provided the leverage needed to schedule a formal presentation with the County Commissioners. I am currently finalizing the brief that outlines the safety risks and the specific maintenance failures identified by Duke Energy. Expect an update once the meeting invitation is officially confirmed by the clerk.

Recently moved here and was told I had a yard light that I could pay a monthly fee to be turned on. The light is across the street and only illuminates county owed easement area and road. Not at all my “yard”. It’s absurd the residents pay for street lights. The county should be responsible. It’s on their property therefore should be powered by them .
Last four years was a resident of Lake County. This is a critical security need.
