Vitamin D insufficiency is rampant in the northwest and it is imperative that the amount of the RDA reflect this fact.

In my medical practice, and acknowledging that patients are now told to treat the sun as their enemy in terms of its carcinogenic potential, the vast majority of patients run a Vitamin D level far below the norm and some drastically so. As a generalisation, the darker their skin +/or the more obese their body, the lower their levels are. Many of these people are taking "the recommended" Health Canada dose of Vitamin D.
