Thanks Health Canada and while you are at it, please ban carcenogenic food colourants from our food and drugs and also at least put a moratorium on the use of neonicotinoids in the country.

The guidelines for vitamin D are way too low for Canadians. Dr. Joseph Mercola recommends 8000 iu of vitamin D and he is at a lower latitude in Chicago (US) than Canada. (http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2002/02/23/vitamin-d-deficiency-part-one.aspx#!). As Canadians, we are not getting the same amount of sun exposure as our neighbors to the south, due to the angle of the sun, so we need even more vitamin D than them. 9000 or even 10,000 iu sounds like a more reasonable limit. Vitamin D is so cheap to supplement that it is a good use of money to re-evaluate how much vitamin D to recommend. It may help so many Canadians to avoid that flu season.

I worry for my grandchildren as I know they are not getting enough Vitamin D because the current acceptable guides lines are too low and need to be re-evaluated.

More education about the value of maitaining adequate vitamin D levels is critical to health and reducing health care costs. An important step is for barrier free vitamin D testing. Doctors telling patients taht their vitamin D level is probably low and that they should just take supplements is not adequate.

A large increase in Vitamin D over the last 3 years has significantly reduced the number of sinus colds I have contracted from 5 to 6 down to 1 or 2 annually and has generally improved my health
