Requirements are DIFFERENT for everyone --- the amount you need is the amount to get your 25 OH D levels up to optimal which is 125 nmol/L to 200 nmol/L. SO you need to get tested, but doctors are not encouraged to test and get their fingers slapped if they order too many tests. If you join Grassroots Health you can get tests through the mail for a reasonable cost.

In this northern climate, we need much more Vit. D than what they recommend to stay healthy.

It is necessary for Canadian to know the proper amount of Vitamin D to take because we do not get too much sun in the winter months.

YA! Just had that discussion with a Dr. who said if you take over 1000 mg you can get sick from vitamin D. He followed the Health Canada amounts.
