I take 4000 IU's a day and have for a long time. My trainer told me about this years ago and I started it then.

I have recently been put on 2000 IU of D3. I am a fairly healthy 63 year old with no history of osteoporosis or MS but the doctor says I need it to retain what bone health I do have. I thought 2000 IU daily was a lot for a healthy person but I am taking it faithfully. Would really like to have more information on it though.

It is totally beyond understanding why such an important issue that affects practically every Canadian is treated in such incompetent or, hopefully not, with ill intent. That is when all health budgets are under enormous pressure.

After being diagnosed with MS & suffering from severe numbness in my legs, my Dr immediately put me on 6,000 iu of vitamin D3 daily.. After only 6 months, the numbness has lessened but there is permanent nerve damage in my left leg.. He has continued to keep me on 5,000 iu of D3 daily along with other MS medications.. This is over & above what vitamin D3 is in my diet.. You also need to make sure it is the right type of vitamin D & that your Dr tests you for the right type or your tests could say you're not deficient in vitamin D when you actually are deficient!! I have been assured by many professionals that a deficiency in vitamin D is not what causes MS but it is an effective treatment for the numbness & that it helps to protect your nerves which helps when you do relapse.. This is based on Relapse Remitting MS not Primary Progressive MS or Secondary Progressive MS..

I have been following Dr. Holick, Dr. Cannel and Dr. Heany's research. I also follow grassroots health and the vitamin D Council and attended the vitamin D symposiums that they have given across North America for years. The sad thing is it is not new news, but it is vital to get the reseach out to all. Prevention so you do not have to treat!

I believe the RDA is currently way too low for Canadians. I was diagnosed with MS a couple of years ago, and I believe that my deficiency in vitamin D may have contributed to my diagnosis.

it was determined a couple of years ago that my levels were only at 59 and should have been over 200. I had to take suppliements of vitamin d for over 6 months at 2000 mg per day, then 1000 thereafter. I noticed a differance as i wasnt as tired anymore and my overall health was better.
