The Habitat for Humanity Carter Place/Fort Saskatchewan/ North Edmonton Families waited 2-3 years to receive their homes, uprooted their families, had substantial financial investments in taking time off work to put into “sweat equity” along with moving expenses. These families were more than happy do this in order to say, “with the support of Habitat for Humanity, homeownership was possible”. These families were given a sense of pride that now they would become homeowners, and change the trajectory of their family. However, with the implementation of a new mortgage policy, this will change. These families signed up for the program when it entailed:

• No down payment
• No interest
• Affordable monthly payments

However, when it came time to sign the homeownership agreement, the organization decided to change the mortgage structure, and it is no longer in accordance to what the Partner Families signed up for.
