A decision to make the teams co-ed should of been presented to the parents before deciding on whether to make the teams co-ed.

I am glad you put this petition out for parents to vote on. That is the way it should be so that a few people who want a change don't ruin it for the overwhelming majority who don't want this change. So i hope they get the 250 signatures. I am surprised by the 0 shares button below.

Half of the 11 v 11 co-ed teams will have to play on a smaller field, the same field U10 boys (8 v 8) for the 2015 season. We only have one regulation sized field at Standard Park & it can't accomodate twelve U12 coed teams, six U14 coed teams and two U16 teams. This is why the league decided 9 v 9 for U12 in years past. This is in the TCYS specific rules, which have not been changed or documented, unless this was another "behind the scenes" change. The TCYS Bylaws and Specific Rules are supposed to be publically available, and were created for the purpose of sustaining the league when leadership changes. TCYS is not 2-3 people making secret decisions, its all of us and the 1000 children who partipcate in this program. TCYS has been very strict and prohibitive of letting younger players play up a division due to insurance reasons, so its hard understand why the league would put a specific group at risk for injury.

Co-Ed play for youth is neither safe nor practical. Beginning with Under-8, the difference between boys and girls is readily apparent. Boys are by nature bigger, stronger and faster. Forcing boys and girls to play together would frustrate the children because of the disparities in strength and speed. Further it would discourage children from playing the game at all. A bad idea must be recognized for what it is!

They should be able to form six girls teams if they play 9 v 9. I've coached all levels u11/u12 (rec, winter & comp) and moving from 9 v 9 to 11 v 11 is not a problem.
This decision, and many others have violated their own bylaws. Who enforces this?

I agree gender specific please. Let's give everyone a chance to develop and find themselves. This hardly seems like a win-win.

As a parent of a boy whom I teach to be kind and gentle towards girls, placing him on a team with female players would put him in a bit of a pickle. I will not ask my healthy, athletic boy to play less aggressively for the sake of being a gentleman. On the other hand as the parent of a girl soccer player, I would be a little ticked off if a boy were to play to rough with my girl and she gets hurt. There is definitely a difference in playing ability at this age between boys and girls. A line not to be crossed unless a girl and her parents decide that she is able to hold her own on the field, which is often the case for some but not most. I have coached a u12 girls team in Tuolumne co and can honestly say that maybe two or three girls on my team would do ok playing on the boys team this year. Mixing at this age is a terrible idea. Plus, travel ball doesn't work well for all families, and shouldn't be our only option for our boys to continue to develop soccer skills.

This is absolutely the WRONG age to mix genders in sports. Not until high school age should this even be a consideration. Please consider keeping boys and girls separate at this point for their benefit. Thank you.

Our daughter, along with three other girls, was asked at this age to play on an upper comp boys team because they didn't have enough players to field a team. It ended up being a very bad year for all of the girls involved. Lots of tears and self doubt due to being exposed to sexism. I think it would not be wise to have co-ed teams at this age.

As a coach of both boys and girls, I believe that having a co-ed U12 team will have a detrimental effect on all the players. Ultimately, we as parents and the TCYS Board want our children to enjoy any sport they choose to play. Creating a co-ed U12 league will assuredly cause many players to not enjoy the game anymore and potentially stop playing.

I believe that it should not be a co Ed team. My daughter is not ready to be on a team with a bunch of rough boys. I think that keeping them in a girls only and a boys only teams is highly recommended. It also allows the girls to have more of a chance of getting there skills down before becoming more of a competitive sport that it already is .

As our girls will be coming up to U12 we would like to see them keep the U12 all girls. Many reasons why but seems that To solve this problem we can just go to smaller teams.

As a physical education teacher I can tell you at this age boys and girls are very different and especially in developing their athletic skills. It wouldn't benefit girls to play with boys at this point. If nothing else it'll likely ruin their sled esteem. There is no reason to do this- go to smaller teams shorter fields and keep the girls with the girls. Simple.
