Petition for Flexibility in the European Cultures and Societies Regarding the Requirement on Physical Presence
Dear Sir/Madam,
We, the undersigned students enrolled in the Bachelor of European Studies, wish to bring to your attention the issue of mandatory physical presence requirement for certain classes, particularly those taught at the Bologna campus, despite being simultaneously offered online.
We understand that our joint degree program aims to provide a well-rounded education by combining classes across multiple institutions. However, we believe that the current policy mandating our presence on the Bologna campus for the class of European Cultures and Societies is in need of urgent reconsideration for the following reasons:
A) Redundant On-Campus Presence: The classes conducted in Bologna are essentially mirrored online through projectors. This physical presence requirement appears to be redundant and does not add substantial value to our learning experience.
B) Technical Challenges: We have encountered various technical problems with the projector and audio setup which often disrupt the learning process and diminish the quality of the lesson. We feel that following the classes remotely would offer a better learning experience (as they are broadcasted online anyway)
C) Inequality Among Universities: It has come to our attention that some universities within the joint degree program, notably Complutense Madrid, have already allowed students to attend these classes online.
D) Inconvenience- Time Management: The mandatory physical presence places an unnecessary burden on students, such as time commitments, which could be better utilized for academic development, instead of commuting.
Therefore, we kindly request that you reconsider removing the obligatory on campus presence which we feel worsens our education experience instead of helping us, and letting us follow the class remotely.
