PETITION IN SUPPORT OF CAROLINE PARKER'S L1 (B) AMENDMENTS TO THE RACIAL COMMISSION

As a proud NATIVE Charlestonian I do not believe that our community needs this proposed commission. However if there is a need to satisfy some "woke" residents then this commission's charter should reflect the amendments proposed by my representative Caroline Parker. Stop the madness!

Our City does not need a racial commission.

I support the L1 (B) amendments which are clearly defined and provide safeguards that can pave the way forward to racial harmony through equal opportunity for all.

There's no place for CRT in our schools.

Critical Race Theory is the death of the American system. It is one-sided and does not factor in a multifaceted understanding and appreciation of our history. Many different ethnic groups and classes, not just one, had been struggling with various forms of oppression throughout time. The American Revolutionary generation was throwing off a rotten, defunct British royal tyranny, which had lost its popular mandate, proclaiming that English nobles in faraway lands were no better than hard working yeoman farmers in the New World. By the 19th century, this largely poor class of males from different nationalities on a frontier were just beginning to be able themselves, to have a voice in a government, and to be able to vote, whether they had property or not. The Age of Jackson and the birth of the Democratic Party represented this triumph. Was it complete? By no means. But it was headed in the right direction, and more voices were being heard, gradually. By the 20th century women and African-Americans were making headway and finding their voices and true talents. CRT immediately suggests that all of American history has been driven primarily by white supremacy and racism. Period. There is no debate really allowed when it is pushed as an agenda. But it is flawed and derives from the false marxist ideology exploded during the last century in countless examples when these tendencies were not checked. The buck stops here. We need to dispense with it all together and move forward into the future, encouraging all to be proud of their history, and the many different angles and legacies represented during the American experiment in representative government. All groups have had something positive to contribute to this commonwealth.

An idea endorsed by a community must be allowed to be read and researched.

I object to the creation of this commission, but Mrs. Parker's amendments are a vast improvement in limiting the scope and power of the commission.
