PETITION FOR EQUITABLE FIELD ACCESS FOR GIRLS SOFTBALL
Goodlettsville Youth Sports
We, the undersigned parents, families, and supporters of girls softball in Goodlettsville, respectfully request that the City of Goodlettsville and the youth sports leadership reconsider the current and proposed field scheduling decisions that negatively impact the girls softball program.
For many years, families in this community have supported and invested in youth softball. Our daughters deserve the same opportunities, safety considerations, and resources that are provided to boys baseball programs.
Recently, it has come to our attention that plans are being considered to allow baseball to utilize Field 6 on Thursday nights while relocating 6U girls softball to Field 2. We believe this decision raises several serious concerns:
- Safety Concerns: Field 2 presents safety challenges for young players, particularly regarding bathroom access and supervision for girls ages 4–7.
- Program Experience: Moving the youngest softball players away from the main quad removes them from the full softball experience—playing under the lights, being part of the larger softball community, and watching older girls play.
- Program Support: Concession revenue generated during softball nights directly supports the girls softball program. Reducing access to the main quad negatively impacts these funds.
- Equity in Youth Sports: Girls softball should not consistently be asked to sacrifice field access or resources in order to accommodate baseball.
Softball participation in Goodlettsville is growing, and that growth reflects the dedication of the families, coaches, and players involved in the program. We believe this momentum should be supported—not limited by decisions that place the girls program at a disadvantage.
By signing this petition, we respectfully ask the City of Goodlettsville and program leadership to:
1. Reconsider the proposed relocation of 6U & 8U girls softball to Field 2.
2. Ensure that girls softball receives fair and equitable field access and scheduling.
3. Prioritize the safety, experience, and development of all young athletes equally.
Our daughters deserve the same respect, opportunities, and support as any other youth athletes in our community.
