29th October, 2024
To:
Professor Bheshem Ramlal, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering
Professor Indar Ramnarine, Deputy Principal
University of the West Indies
Subject: Petition for Intervention in the Hiatus of Dr. Aaron Chadee
Dear Professor Ramlal and Professor Ramnarine,
We, the undersigned postgraduate students of the Faculty of Engineering, are writing to formally express our concerns regarding the recent hiatus of Dr. Aaron Chadee, a lecturer who has played an integral role in the education and development of students within our faculty. Dr. Chadee’s departure represents a significant loss to our academic community, given his profound impact on student’s success and his dedication to maintaining high academic standards.
It has come to our attention that Dr. Chadee has faced longstanding administrative challenges and it is to our understanding that the strain of these unresolved administrative matters ultimately led to his decision to take a break. Dr. Chadee has provisionally stepped down, awaiting a satisfactory resolution of these issues, and his decision appears to stem from an environment that has not supported him equitably.
We, as postgraduate students, have benefitted greatly from Dr. Chadee’s instruction, guidance, and mentorship. His commitment to our growth and his dedication to his responsibilities have left an indelible impact on our academic and professional lives. Just to mention Dr. Chadee’s commitment to students, he extends beyond the classroom hours since after master’s classes, he often stays back, sometimes as late as 10PM, to answer our questions on course material. He also remains accessible through WhatsApp and other platforms, providing continuous support whenever students need it. We stand united in our endorsement of Dr. Chadee as a vital member of the faculty, whose contributions cannot be easily replaced.
We, therefore, respectfully request your immediate intervention as well as the intervention of the upper echelons of the University in this matter. It is our hope that your support and influence can address the unfair situation Dr. Chadee faces, and enable him to continue contributing meaningfully to our faculty.
Thank you for your attention to this pressing issue. We trust that, in your capacities as senior administrators of the University, you will consider our request seriously and ensure the preservation of the academic excellence we strive for within the Faculty of Engineering.
Sincerely,
