Petition for Emmanuel College Class of 2018 Commencement Relocation

I don't feel comfortable with a graduation ceremony outside in a parking lot like this-- a relocation to the gym, or a third-party venue would be great.

How am I supposed to tell my step dad, grandparents, siblings, boyfriend, etc. that they can't attend my graduation due to a lack of seating? Devastating.

Who here has looked at the annual budget and financial allocations? After seeing this link on Facebook, who called the Treasurer's office to see if something could be done or if a meeting could be had? I am all for people sharing their voice, but complaints must be paired with a way forward. Before accusing the institution of Emmanuel of negligence, poor planning, faulty budgeting or otherwise, I suggest starting a dialogue with the school on the issue and then researching proposals for a better solution.

Please move graduation.

We have spent hard earned money sending our children to this specific college, it is the right thing to do to include more than 4 family members in the celebration of their graduation!

We are grandparents of one of the future grads. and we want to attend graduation ion a decent location

Class of 2018 and beyond. This needs to be a permanent change. No discussion.

This is a great issue to bring up, but I would like to recommend to whoever is leading this movement to do your research. Ask senior class officers, Dr.Joe, or Dr. Rissmeyer what we typically pay for graduation and our reasons for hosting it in the parking lot each year...look at the benefits of moving to particular locations and the feasibility of doing so. I encourage you to pursue this but make sure you're putting in enough effort for administration to have suggestions to listen and respond to!

I would like my grandparents to not be separated in the jyc or my parents to have to stand if they can't get a ticket early enough

For a once in a lifetime event, surely the school can do better than a parking lot. Why not try to have large schools like BU or Northeastern rent them their facilities for the day. For example, rent BU's Nickerson field the day after their graduation.

Having to bring my family and grandmothers to a parking lot to end 4 years and over $100k was EMBARRASSING. Please change this ceremony for future classes!!!

No one should have to graduate in a parking lot especially in the most beautiful city in the world!!!

I'm all about petitions but this is more than a bigger space. Where/what is an alternative space, how will parking be affected, how will this impact the cost of graduation due to renting a space. For the tent used at graduation it is rented and cost about 10,000 and chairs are also rented and set up by facilities. Renting a new area will likely be well above that price. Please don't get me wrong I agree but if I learned anything about Emmanuel and issuing petitions/demands they want these questions answered and research done . Good Luck

I had no idea that only 4 people are allowed to attend. I'm graduating in May of 2017 and there are 5 people in my immediate family (parents and siblings), not including my boyfriend of 7 years. I need to pick and choose between the most important people in my immediate family circle? Craziness. (Also: if we're doing an outside ceremony at Emmanuel, it should at least be on the beautiful quad, not a parking lot!)
