Petition for Emergency Meeting/ Reinstatement Of Pastor Shawn Thomas Sr.
We, the undersigned members of
New Greater Oregon St. John Missionary Baptist Church (NGOSJ), are requesting a formal, in-person members only emergency meeting of the congregation to address the immediate un-notified removal of Pastor Shawn Thomas Sr, on May 3, 2026.
We believe (NGOSJ) this action was taken in violation of the following: Bylaws, articles of incororporation, state law, which requires a formal vote, proper notice and adherence to established procedures.
Furthermore, we believe (NGOSJ) the lack of transparency regarding this decision has hindered the church ministy and unity of the church. The falsification of statement, that was presented to the Detroit Police Department Tenth Precient, stating that each member of NGOSJ had a vote to terminate Pastor Shawn Thomas Sr, in which the members were all unaware of the matter until May 3, 2026. The statement that was provided speaking on behalf of each member was falsification violating 18 U.S Code.
Therefore, we demand:
1. An explanation from The The Deacons Board (1 member) and Trustee Board (1 member), regarding the reasons for the removal and why was a vote not conducted on behalf of each member to make a final decision, along with the matter we are also requesting the burden of proof all documents and information that caused the termination of Pastor Shawn Thomas Sr.
2. A temporary Reinstatement Of Pastor Shawn Thomas Sr, until a full transparent review can be conducted.
