As a member of our aging population, a pedal assist electric bike allows me to exercise and run local errands, such as grocery shopping in my hilly neighborhood. The Americans with Disabilities Act and related federal and state laws stipulate that handicapped individuals have a right of access to entities. Because of age related decline in physical abilities, I would not be able to access the bike trails that my tax dollars have helped to pay for, without a pedal assist electric bike. The American Disabilities Act should require local governments to allow at least class 1 electric bike users to access paved bicycle trails.

Everyone should be able to ride on the trails- we all need to show each other respect when riding on the trails - just as we would when driving on a street

Time to evolve. Please don't hamper people from getting outside and exercising. We have beautiful paths and you want even less people participating?

I have received two citations/warnings so far since this BAN was put in place in July. I have a new class 1 E-Bike. I have a MTB and can’t even go on MTB trails. We need to make a change OCCO 2-5-29n is unfair.

My ebike is a great source of enjoyment. I’m turning 72 this year and ride it on the beach trail. I do most of the peddling, using the throttle in headwinds — and obeying speed laws.

I am 60 years old, recently retired, and ride my new class II EBIKE frequently to get into - and stay in shape. If we do not have continued access to the trails, I would not have this option because riding in the bike lanes on surface streets are quite dangerous these days due to distracted drivers. My EBIKE has truly changed my life and has allowed me to once again enjoy riding bikes in hilly Southern California and stay active. In my opinion, most EBIKE riders, like myself, ride with extreme caution. We tend to be somewhat older, perhaps wiser, but always take safety issues very seriously. I always ride at a safe speed without exception, and am extremely careful and courteous to other riders and pedestrians on the trails. Given that I ride for exercise, I use the EBIKE motor very sparingly, with the goal of assisting in traveling uphill more easily. I believe that if this measure is not passed, it would be extremely detrimental to my health and the health and well being of many of Orange County’s aging population. Thank you.

I enjoy riding my electric bike on bike paths throughout Orange County. I don't go nearly as fast as the other cyclists. My bike does let me ride longer and farther than I would be able to on a regular bike. Please continue to allow electric bikes everywhere regular pedal bikes can go. Thank you.

no difference between ebike and normal bikes . They are not loud and are great for people with medical problems

The use of this bicycle is imperative for my husbands knee injury and to keep him healthy and active.

Please consider the continuation of the allowance of ebikes on our County trails. Interconnecting routes would give many people new ways to commute to work and provide riders at all ability levels the opportunity to ride some particularity hilly trails. I have always admired Orange County’s progressive attitude in regards to roads and transportation. Ebikes are a new and fun alternative to getting around our beautiful county and would provide health benefits to an aging population that may not otherwise ride a bike.

We support the open use of all bike access trails and routes for electric bikes. The board of supervisors should also consider the economic effect as well as the desirability of OC as a lifestyle rich environment.
