it makes no sense to fly all the way back when we only have like two lectures, tickets are way too expensive right now for this to be worth it

It would be really nice to have some online alternitive or perhaps for next similar situations to be thought in advance if there could be done something that doesn't create more logistics stress to the students trying to get most of their time and money.
