This project has nothing to do with hours or weeding decisions. It sounds like a lot of you have concerns about the library that are unrelated to this petition and this conversation is going nowhere productive by venting about unrelated complaints here.

That's not true. The people objecting to it take their involvement in the life of a university seriously, and object to those who would trivialize it. I've spent many years teaching students, learning my discipline, working in libraries, and pursuing scholarship. It bothers me that a university would engage in activity that goes against these values, since they are, after all, the values a university should be founded upon. Also, I don't have any objection to social media, or even video games, if they are part of an intellectual pursuit. I see no inconsistency there. And I don't think "carpe diem" was ever intended in the sense of "whatever," which is what you seem to be saying.

I find it funny that the same people who are complaining about having a game room, and how it is "detrimental" to our society, are the same people sitting on their asses playing solitaire and scrolling through Facebook, and creating petitions on things that are irrelevant to their everyday lives from 8-5 everyday. This is their contribution towards society. Carpe Diem people. Live your life.

As an alumni I am surprised at ASU. There is already an ill perception of our college which I feel that this decision encourages.

Not all of us are here to goof off on our parents' dime. Some of us are here for an education. What a concept.

If the library weren't doing all sorts of other anti-intellectual nonsense, such as weeding books, getting rid of bound journals, discarding VHS tapes, closing the reference desk and refusing to be open 24/7 (because that might cut into the administrative/athletics budgets)--and almost all these decisions based on quantitative data (i.e., business models), then I might not think this game room were utter bullshit. As it stands, it seems our library is well on the way to being in the next shitty Hollywood sci-fi film. Get ready to have your X-Box checked out to you by the one and only Jar Jar Binks.

This seems to send the wrong message. The Student Union is right next door to the library, and contains plenty of options for R&R from study if such is needed.

It's nice to know that ASU students will be in the vanguard of the "Zombie Apocalypse."

How shameful to learn that a game room is opening in our library. Our "glorified high school" has descended to degrading new lows.

As an App State Alumni, this is appalling. A "gaming" room in the library, of all places, would be the most rude thing ever thought of! To spend school resources and tuition on such a idea is ludicrous! I am begging my alma mater NOT to do such a trivial thing. PLEASE invest your money in things that are NEEDED! More study material, more room for studying, and continued payment of the outstanding staff that helps make those things possible!

A total waste of resources and completely disrespectful to students who come to ASU to get an education. Shameful!

These precious resources should be used for education! Doesn't the student union already have a game room? What is the motivation here?

There is already not enough room for students to sit and study. My tuition shouldn't be for people to play video games.

We need a second library, not one less room in the overcrowded library.

I know too many people to have dropped out due to video games, they don't need to be enabled to skip more classes

There are not enough study rooms now & the library is always noisy! A video game room does not belong here!

I'm an alumnus who frequented the library and this is very disheartening to hear. Libraries are the last bastion for the free, unmonitored exploration of knowledge in the digital age. This space should be available for a distraction free pursuit of knowledge. A game room belongs in the student union. Please reconsider this decision.

As the parent of a student, I request the video game room be moved to a more appropriate building on campus.
