Subject: Appeal for an Immediate Ceasefire and Renewed Diplomatic Dialogue
We, the undersigned, respectfully call upon the Governments of Cambodia and Thailand to adopt immediate measures to halt all forms of armed confrontation and to commit to a peaceful, negotiated resolution to current tensions.
We are deeply alarmed to learn that the ongoing conflict has already resulted in hundreds of thousands of civilians being displaced, with numerous families forced to leave their homes in search of safety. Reports also indicate that schools have closed, disrupting children’s education and placing additional burdens on families and communities. These humanitarian impacts underscore the urgent need for immediate action to prevent further suffering.
Recognizing the long-standing historical, cultural, and economic ties between the peoples of Cambodia and Thailand, and acknowledging the shared interest in maintaining regional stability, security, and prosperity, we express deep concern over the recent escalation of conflict, which poses significant humanitarian risks and threatens the well-being of civilians in both countries.
We respectfully urge both Governments to:
- Implement an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life, injuries, and displacement of civilians.
- Refrain from actions that escalate tensions, including the use of force near border communities.
- Re-engage in constructive diplomatic dialogue, with facilitation by ASEAN or neutral international mediators, to resolve outstanding disputes peacefully.
- Ensure humanitarian access and protection for affected civilians and communities living near the conflict areas.
- Strengthen long-term mechanisms for conflict prevention, including joint border committees, cultural and educational exchanges, and confidence-building measures.
We firmly believe that lasting peace can only be achieved through dialogue, mutual respect, and diplomacy—not through armed confrontation. Cambodia and Thailand have demonstrated, time and again, their capacity to overcome disagreements peacefully, and we call upon both nations to uphold this tradition for the sake of regional harmony and the safety of their citizens.
