they actually listened and the 8:35 start time is happening which honestly feels a bit surreal after all the back and forth. i am so relieved because those extra minutes of sleep are really going to change things for the better (seriously thank you all for pushing with me). keep …
To Dr. Fonseca and The Masters School Administration:
We, the undersigned, support your original proposal to start the school day at 8:35 a.m. by taking 5 minutes off morning meetings and each class period. We ask you to announce prior to the 2013-14 contract deadline that you will, starting September 2013, implement this initiative that is vital to the health, well-being and safety of our children.
I have been reading the comments from other parents and it is honestly exhausting just how many kids are walking around in a total fog before noon. I am currently trying to map out a time to drop off some of these signatures at the front office because the silence from the administration is starting to feel like a choice.

I really thought this might just fizzle out but the energy right now is honestly kind of overwhelming and frankly I am still trying to catch my breath. It feels like the school administration might actually have to acknowledge that we are serious about these start times since so many of you jumped in to support the idea so quickly.

Finally some common sense. Too many teens are struggling with mental health from constant sleep deprivation.

YES. The current schedule is brutal. Let them sleep a little longer so they can actually handle the workload.

Do it. 5 mins off the periods wont kill anyone but an extra 30 mins of sleep is huge for these kids.

It is scientifically proven that teenagers need more sleep. Why are we fighting the biology of our own students?

My kid is falling asleep in history class. These kids are so overextended and exhausted it is not healthy.
