To Your Excellencies Bishop Edward Burns and Bishop Greg Kelly:

We, your faithful flock of the Diocese of Dallas, write to you as a humble, sinful people. A people who are hurting and scattered as we’ve lacked access to the Sacraments over the past several months.

At the writing of this letter, we are in Phase 3: Reopening of Sunday Masses. The people are overjoyed with the opportunity to return to Mass; however, there is still an ongoing fear that at any moment these Sacraments could be taken away from us. The purpose of addressing this letter is to express our concern for the current state of our parishes and to request the following:

1) Please reinstate the Sacraments in full force.

2) Your firm commitment to fight against whatever authority would seek to remove the Sacraments from your flock in future.

We are reminded of the courage of St. Charles Borromeo, Patron Saint of Bishops and Cardinals, during the plague of 1576. We pray for his intercession to guide you and your brother Bishops during these difficult times of isolation and fear.

Luke 17:33 says, “Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it.” As the world faces the COVID-19 pandemic, and the faithful are told to shelter-in-place out of love for neighbor while the world searches for a solution, we are reminded of paragraph 1336 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church:

1336 … “Will you also go away?”: the Lord’s question echoes through the ages, as a loving invitation to discover that only he has “the words of eternal life” and that to receive in faith the gift of his Eucharist is to receive the Lord himself.

True love of neighbor and the true cure that we are seeking should be Christ Himself. And, as the Catechism again reminds us, “the Eucharist is ‘the source and summit of the Christian life,’” (CCC 1324).

Our earthly world is passing away and our attention should be on the eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Throughout Church history, courageous men and women have bravely protected Christ’s Church and the Sacraments. Courage and bravery which was made possible by the reception of the Sacraments they risked their lives for. As you stand for Christ and His Sacraments, you will face persecution. We, as your flock, will be beside you, praying and providing the support necessary, inspired by the martyrs who protected Christ’s Church before us.

May God bless you, may Jesus Christ bring you strength, may the Holy Spirit guide you, and the Blessed Virgin Mother keep you protected under her mantel.

A Sus Excelencias el obispo Edward Burns y el obispo Greg Kelly:

Nosotros, su fiel rebaño de la Diócesis de Dallas, les escribimos como personas humildes y pecadoras. Un pueblo que está dolido y disperso porque no hemos tenido acceso a los sacramentos en los últimos meses.

Al escribir esta carta, estamos en la Fase 3: Reapertura de las misas dominicales. La gente está jubilosa con la oportunidad de regresar a misa; sin embargo, todavía existe un temor constante de que en cualquier momento estos sacramentos puedan ser apartados de nosotros. El propósito de esta carta es expresar nuestra preocupación por el estado actual de nuestras parroquias y solicitar lo siguiente:

1) Por favor restablezca los sacramentos en toda su dimensión.

2) Su firme compromiso de luchar contra cualquier autoridad que busque eliminar los sacramentos de su rebaño en el futuro.

Recuerdamos el coraje de San Carlos Borromeo, Patrono de los Obispos y Cardenales, durante la plaga de 1576. Oramos por su intercesión para guiarlo a usted y a sus hermanos Obispos durante estos tiempos difíciles de aislamiento y miedo.

Lucas 17:33 dice: "Quien busque preservar su vida la perderá, pero quien la pierda la salvará". A medida que el mundo se enfrenta a la pandemia de COVID-19, y se les dice a los fieles que se refugien en el lugar por amor al prójimo mientras el mundo busca una solución, se nos recuerda el párrafo 1336 del Catecismo de la Iglesia Católica:

1336 ... "¿También te irás?": La pregunta del Señor resuena a través de los siglos, como una invitación amorosa para descubrir que solo él tiene "las palabras de vida eterna" y que recibir con fe el regalo de su Eucaristía es recibir El mismo Señor.

El verdadero amor al prójimo y la verdadera cura que estamos buscando debería ser Cristo mismo. Y, como nos recuerda nuevamente el Catecismo, "la Eucaristía es ‘la fuente y la cumbre de la vida cristiana’ "(Catecismo 1324).

Nuestro mundo terrenal está desapareciendo y nuestra atención debe estar en la vida eterna con nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo. A lo largo de la historia de la Iglesia, hombres y mujeres valientes han protegido valientemente la Iglesia y los Sacramentos de Cristo. El coraje y la valentía que fue posible gracias a la recepción de los sacramentos por los que arriesgaron sus vidas. Al defender a Cristo y sus sacramentos, se enfrentará a la persecución. Nosotros, como su rebaño, estaremos a vuestro lado, rezando y brindando el apoyo necesario, inspirados por los mártires que protegieron la Iglesia de Cristo antes que nosotros.

Que Dios te bendiga, que Jesucristo te dé fuerzas, que el Espíritu Santo te guíe y que la Santísima Virgen te mantenga protegida bajo su manto.
